The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) has trained 60 members of staff from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) in the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS).
The training brought together officers from various departments, including Procurement, Information Technology and Accounts, as well as members of senior management. underscoring the importance of collective institutional understanding and ownership of the electronic procurement system.
Speaking during the training, PPDA Director General, George Mankhwala, commended MEC and MERA for taking the initiative to familiarize their staff with MANePS ahead of its official rollout in December 2026.
He applauded the participation of senior management, describing it as leadership by example adding that successful adoption of MANePS calls for concerted effort and commitment.
“MANePS is a government reform agenda that seeks to bring sanity to the way public procurement is conducted in Malawi. It is therefore important that everyone within an institution understands the system and their respective roles in making it work,” said Mankhwala.
The DG then reaffirmed PPDA's commitment to providing technical and capacity-building support to all PDEs, particularly those experiencing challenges in using the system, to ensure that they are adequately prepared ahead of the official rollout.
The demand-driven training initiative forms part of PPDA's broader efforts to ensure that public institutions are adequately equipped with the knowledge and skills required to effectively use MANePS.
