NOMINATED-MANePS

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) is participating in the two-day 2026 ICT Expo organized by the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) in Lilongwe.

At the exhibition, PPDA is showcasing a range of digital innovations, chief among them the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS), a transformative digital platform that automates and streamlines the entire public procurement cycle.

MANePS has been nominated for the Public Digital Platform of the Year Award, placing Malawi's flagship procurement system among the country's leading digital solutions.

Speaking during a tour of the PPDA exhibition stand, Minister of Information and Digitalization, Shadreck Namalomba, described MANePS as a progressive step towards achieving national development goals.

The Minister's remarks resonate with government's broader commitment to digital transformation, which includes policy reforms, investment in digital infrastructure, innovation, and the expansion of technology-driven public services aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and citizen access to services.

Speaking at the exhibition, PPDA Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mandy Pondani, said that MANePS demonstrates how technology can improve governance, strengthen accountability, and enhance transparency in public procurement.

Pondani further disclosed that since its official rollout on April 1, 2026, MANePS has registered approximately 5,000 suppliers, while 184 Procuring and Disposing Entities have already published their Annual Procurement Plans on the platform.

She said the system is also recording not less than eight tender notices every day. "This is huge for us as PPDA because it signifies that the system is being understood, embraced and utilized by key stakeholders. The growing uptake demonstrates confidence in the platform and affirms the country's readiness to adopt digital solutions in Public Procurement," said Pondani.

Commenting on the ICTAM nomination, Pondani described the recognition as a significant achievement for both PPDA and Malawi.

"The nomination alone is a win. It demonstrates that Malawi is making meaningful strides in modernizing public procurement through technology and that our digital innovations are gaining national recognition. We are honored that MANePS has been considered among the country's outstanding public digital platforms," she said.

The 2026 ICT Expo is being held under the theme: "Unlocking Malawi's Digital Economy; ICT Exports, Trusted Payments and Fraud Resilience."
