The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) has in the past three weeks conducted an intensive awareness and publicity campaign aimed at increasing understanding and adoption of the Malawi National Electronic Government Procurement System (MANePS).
The campaign, conducted in line with the PPDA’s Electronic Government- Procurement (e-GP) Communication and Change Management Plan, has seen the Authority reach thousands of people through road shows in more than 26 markets and trading centers across the country’s three regions in Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Blantyre cities.
The road shows combined education with entertainment, using music, dance, and interactive public address systems to draw large crowds and create excitement around the e-procurement reform.
These efforts were complemented by branded visibility materials such as banners, T-shirts, and caps, which amplified recognition of both PPDA and the MANePS brand.
To ensure wider reach, PPDA strategically partnered with both national and community radios to air radio adverts, jingles, and one-hour interactive programs that unpacked the benefits of E-GP.
The response was overwhelming, with feedback pouring in through phone calls and text messages from across the country, including far-flung areas such as Chitipa Wenya.
The mass media outreach, combined with the physical activations, ensured that millions of Malawians were informed about the transition from manual to Digital Procurement processes.
PPDA’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mandy Pondani, expressed excitement over the strong public response to the campaign.
“We are thrilled to see how Malawians have embraced the MANePS message. From the road shows to the radio programs, the feedback has been overwhelming. People are not only learning about MANePS but also discovering what PPDA is and how our work promotes transparency and accountability in public procurement,” she said.
She further noted that the Authority intends to build on the momentum by expanding and diversifying its awareness initiatives.
“This is only the beginning. We plan to use even more creative and inclusive communication approaches so that every Malawian from the most urban to the most remote knows about PPDA, understands MANePS, and fully embraces the digital innovations we are championing,” Pondani added.
With continued leadership support and sustained public engagement, PPDA remains committed to making MANePS a household name and a lasting symbol of Digital Transformation and Good Governance in Malawi.
