October 13, 2025

REPRESENTING-Mr Mwinama

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) participated in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, from October 6 to 10, 2025.

The Authority was represented by Mr. Emmanuel Mwinama, Senior Programmer, who attended the summit as part of PPDA's ongoing commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity within the public procurement system in Malawi under the OGP initiative.

This event served as a platform for participants to explore strategies for enhancing governmental transparency, strengthening citizen engagement, and fostering democratic values at the national level worldwide.

During the summit, participants engaged in comprehensive discussions covering a broad spectrum of topics, including governance transparency, climate change, women's leadership participation, and the implications of artificial intelligence on democracy and public accountability.

The sessions underscored the increasing significance of digital innovation, collaboration, and civic engagement in enhancing trust and effectiveness within public institutions.

As the co-chair of the Anti-Corruption Technical Working Group within the Malawi Chapter of the Open Government Partnership, PPDA derived significant benefits from the summit.

This event provided valuable learning opportunities from prominent advocacy organizations and countries that are progressively advancing in open government initiatives worldwide.

The Authority aims to extract essential insights from the summit, specifically concerning the imperative to increase collaborations between governmental entities and civil society, enhance transparency through technology-driven initiatives, and promote robust citizen oversight in the management of public resources.

The OGP is an annual event where representatives from governments, civil society, and international organizations meet to share experiences, best practices, and progress on open government initiatives.

The summit focuses on strengthening democracy and trust through transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.

The Summit this year convened over 2,000 delegates from various governments, civil society organizations, and international entities to exchange ideas and best practices related to open governance.
